Why I Think Joe Anderson Should Play Kurt Cobain In the Upcoming Biopic
AKA Why I Think Joe Anderson is the Only Actor Right for the Job
So, I’ve been seeing rumors about a Kurt Cobain movie floating around the web for a little while now. To tell the truth, I’m a little uneasy about it, but I think if it can be made right, then they should have a go at it. Kurt Cobain was such an interesting person. It would be cool to see what they’d put on film. But some of the actors I’ve seen rumors about just don’t seem to be right for the job: Robert Pattinson (big no!), Ewan McGregor (like him and all, but he’s just not right to me) and Ryan Gosling (of course I love him, but again, just doesn’t seem to be the right man for the job). For me, there’s only one answer and that man’s name is Joe Anderson. Here are some reasons why.
1. “Look at him!” No, really, just look at him. Now take another look. And then get another picture and take a look at that. Seriously, this man has an uncanny resemblance to Kurt Cobain and it’s scary. I remember first seeing Across the Universe and all I could think when he was onscreen was KURT COBAIN KURT COBAIN KURT COBAIN. I seriously think that he’s Kurt’s long lost twin brother from another cousin or something. But I know. Looking like him isn’t everything. He has to be able to do way more than that to make the part right.
2. “The man can sing.” If you’ve ever seen Across the Universe, then you know this to be true. Just listen to any of his tracks and he will astound you. His voice even sounds a little bit like Cobain’s: it’s got this raw, tortured quality to it that Cobain perfected while in Nirvana. I mean, I know that nobody will ever get Cobain’s voice right. He was a force of nature in the music industry. But just take a listen to “Hey Jude” and especially “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” and you’ll see what I mean. This guy has the perfect voice to play Kurt Cobain. (And I think he’d at least do him justice.)
3. “His acting has depth.” Someone who plays Kurt Cobain has to be able to show all sides of him: the anger, the sadness, the goofing off, just the complex personality that he had as a person. I think that Joe Anderson has the depth. Of course, I’m gonna use Across the Universe as an example again. Just look up the “Strawberry Fields Forever” scene if you want depth. Or, if you’re looking for a different movie, look up the counting scene in The 27 Club. The guy can act. There’s no doubt about it.
4. “It doesn’t matter that he’s British.” I didn’t even know he was British until I was watching behind-the-scenes videos for Across the Universe. His American accent is so good that I literally thought he was actually American. I think a lot of people were surprised about this, too. It wasn’t until after I find this out that I sometimes noticed his British accent slip a little in movies and clips that I’ve seen of him. But that really is amazing. That it only took me after the fact that I learned he was British to notice this.
(Oh, yes, and he can also play guitar. That’s definitely a plus, too.)
So, yeah, there you have it. Those are my reasons for why I think Joe Anderson should play Kurt Cobain in the upcoming biopic. Agree? Disagree? For me, at least, I think he was definitely born to play this role.
